Guinea-Pig relatively a new victim of Indian outsourcing industry. Guinea-Pigs were used in pharmaceutical labs for drug testing but they became unemployed when pharmaceutical companies discovered a new cheap species (Indian citizens) for their drug testing and outsourced their work to Bangalore.

  • Drug testing on human beings is US$1 billion-a-year industry in India.
  • Carrying out trials in India can cut costs by more than 55 percent.
  • Approximately 400 trials currently under way in India.
  • Two million Indians on clinical trials.
  • A volunteer earns anything between 3,000 to 4,000 rupees.

IT city Bangalore, known for its outsourcing industry, is home for many clinical research organizations (CROs). Many big hospitals are also contributing plenty of patients to the clinical trials done by these companies. Foreign firms are interested in conducting clinical trials in India due to the availability of patients, volunteers and cost-effectiveness. A volunteer earns anything between 3,000 to 4,000 rupees ($60-$80) based on the requirement of the study and could take part in three studies in a year.

Industry officials say it costs upwards of US$1 billion to make a new drug, with clinical trials accounting for almost two-thirds of the cost. Carrying out trials in India can cut costs by more than 55 percent.

Clinical trials on human beings is US$1 billion-a-year industry in India. According to the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance, GlaxoSmithKline, the London-listed pharmaceutical giant, and Johnson & Johnson, its US-based peer, are the two leading groups engaged in testing new drugs in India, each conducting 22 trials over the past year. Approximately 400 trials currently under way in India.

BBC estimated two million patients in India on clinical trials. Reporter Paul Kenyon of BBC tracked down a drug trial being conducted for a major drug company in a psychiatric unit at a hospital in Gujurat. For each person enrolled, moreover, the hospital would receive 30,000 rupees (about $665).

Forty-nine babies have died in drug tests at one of India’s top hospitals, The victims were among the 4,142 infants who were used in a total of 42 clinical trials. The deaths occurred over a period of 30 months at the Delhi-based All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), an elite medical college and public hospital renowned for providing low-cost treatment to the poor.

Manish Tiwari, member of Congress party, which heads India’s coalition Government, said: “The practice of using infants like guinea-pigs for drug testing must end.”

Rahul Verma, of the Uday Foundation for Congenital Defects, said: “If you are rich in this country you go to a private doctor. You certainly don’t put your child up to be experimented on.”

A member of India’s Dalit, or untouchables, caste, Solanki has volunteered for about nine Phase I trials of new generic drugs since 2001. Now 24, he’s consumed pills for everything from heart problems to acid reflux in studies that involved X-rays, frequent blood tests and overnight stays. The most complicated trial paid 7,500 rupees ($150), a godsend in an area where farmers earn about 50 rupees ($1) a day. Solanki, who lives with his father and two brothers in a room the size of a single-car garage, said the companies are taking advantage of our economic condition. We give our bodies to them. He needs, but cannot afford, medications for liver and stomach problems. All he can do is sell his body to test drugs he does not need. Like Solanki about two million people in India working as a lab rat for clinical research organizations.

India is going to host the most expensive Commonwealth Games in history, with an infrastructure and organising budget of two billion dollars being larger than the previous games in Melbourne 2006 (approx. US$ 1.1 billion).

Over the past few months electronic and press media have reported tons of Commonwealth Games scam after another. Even the British queen, a report says, is in cold fury over some of these allegations.

The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CGOC) came out with a detailed explanation of the expenditure on overlay. The money at stake for the infrastructure is no less then Rs 30,000 CR.

A Tissue paper role cost was shown as Rs 4400 and Treadmill worth $75,000?

Indira Gandhi stadium the amount stood at `669 crore, shooting range at `149 crore, Lal Bahadur stadium in Hyderabad was modernized for `80 crore, stadium in Nagpur was built at `84 crore and Rs 85 crore for the modernization of Ferozeshah Kotla stadium.

If it took just Rs 85 crore for the modernization of Ferozeshah Kotla stadium then why did the renovation of the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium cost Rs 961 crore?

Bamboo screens have been erected around city slums to separate visitors from the sights of the slums (the real india), a practice which human rights campaigners have deemed dishonest and immoral. A massive construction and “beautification” project has resulted in the demolition of hundreds of homes and the displacement of city dwellers – at least 100,000 of New Delhi’s 160,000 homeless people have removed from shelters, some of which have been demolished. After the games are over the city will have around three million people homeless as a result.

A United Nations independent human rights expert voiced concern over the deaths of homeless people in India’s. Over 70 people have died in raced construction work on the Commonwealth Games in India’s capital Delhi.

It revealed 2000 boys aged between 14 and 16 are also working on the games sites “in gross violation of labour laws”. Delhi’s Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit defended the child labour, “I entirely agree that there should be no child labour, but these children were abandoned by the states they come from and also by their parents. They have moved to a bigger city only to get jobs that pay, go to the railway station right now, you’ll find them coming in with their little bags of clothing. Child labour can only be controlled if our society becomes more sensitive and caring.”

More than a million families have already been evicted as a result of Games-linked development projects, while many others – street vendors, Patri bazaarwallas and rickshaw pullers – have lost their livelihoods due to a “clean-up” ahead of the Games. Some 40,000 rickshaw pullers and street vendors, small shopkeepers and food stall owners have lost their livelihood.

“If you don’t have a toilet, you cannot marry my daughter.”

August 14, 2010 Leave a comment

The mothers of the brides-to-be have simplified matters by clearing stating to potential grooms: “If you don’t have a proper lavatory in your house, don’t even think about marrying my daughter.”

Believe it or not, it is estimated that in India more than 660 million or sixty percent of the population still defecate in the open, 660 million people is approximately double the population count of the United States causing a myriad of medical conditions ranging from diarrhea to pelvic cancer.

“Women suffer the most from this situation. They must go outside and they have to do so before sunrise or after nightfall so they can’t be seen.” Some upper-caste communities are not happy having lavatories in their homes because it is believed such an arrangement is unclean.

54 toilets would have to be built per minute to make India “open-defecation free” by March 31, 2012 which is not possible.

Stockholm Water Prize built toilets for ten million Indians.

Life is not Sunny Devil’s movie..

Forgive me but I just couldn’t bring myself to write india with a capital “i”.

india have problem with sir lanka, China, almost had war with Bangladesh in 1975, 79, 85, and 2001 and not to forget Pakistan.

In india there are hindu-Muslim massacres, hindu-christian massacres, hindu-sikhs massacres. Why is always one party hindu.

india is the only country in the world where the women population is less than that of men.

10% of hindu families burry their daughters alive when she is born.

Among the rest of the 90%, 15% marry their daughter between the ages of 8-10. Obviously the husband doesn’t want to wait, so most of them die due to the blood loss.

Most of those who survive this die from premature forced pregnancy.

If survived that then of course there is satti. What did they ever do to them?

There are 600 million hindus in india, 3,840,000 deaths that end up burning. Talk about raising 5% tax on big companies to end global pollution/warming. I think if we put tax on burning dead that would solve it. And not only that, you also have to throw the ashes in river, like air pollution wasn’t enough for you.

40% of the girls before reaching the age of 10 faces sexual harassment (rape is included); the %age rises to 68% before the age of 18.

30% of the boys before reaching the age of 10 faces sexual harassment (rape is included).

“It doesn’t mean you sat on the pedestal if you threw someone off it, you have to walk up to it yourself and sit on it.”

It means that throwing dirt on others won’t make you any better for that you have to look at yourself.

They are responsible for FOOD CRISIS IN THE WORLD. The world is an intelligent design. What we take from earth goes back to it. Our growth is the result of us eating and drinking throughout our life. That’s a lot of food that took nitrates or (in laymen term) fertility from earth. Much of these nitrates we excrete in life. But also a materialistic amount still remains in our body. By burying dead, we give each and every nitrate/fertility to earth. By burning our dead, we transform the life supporting nitrates into deadly gases, and make the earth less and less fertile each day.

The food crisis in the world is because they are tampering with nature, working against it.
